Aritzia Super Puff Super Review

The Aritzia Super Puff is one of the most trendy and stylish winter puffer coats, but is it worth it? Disclaimer: This post may contain affiliate links. If you purchase using one of my links, I may make a small commission at no cost to you.

I live in Seattle, where the winters are long, wet, and sometimes snowy. However, I moved to Seattle from Southern California, where winter doesn’t really exist. So I am pretty much always cold, BUT I am simply unwilling to confirm to the stereotypical Seattle winter outfit of hiking boots, plaid flannel, puffer vest, and a beanie. I just can’t. I already own one Patagonia jacket, isn’t that enough for anyone?

So in my search to stay both warm AND cute over winter, I stumbled upon the cult following for the Aritzia Super Puff. But at $250 (and up) a pop, I really wanted to make sure it was worth it. I want North Face function but Aritzia style. I honestly could not find any in depth reviews online, so I went in store, tried a bunch on, and just took a chance on one style. One year later, I’m back with my thoughts on how it fared over last winter.

Aritzia Super Puff Overview

The Aritzia Super Puff is their line of puffer coats. They have five basic styles: the classic Super Puff, the vest, the Puff2O (waterproof), the (re)puff made of recycled materials, and the Super Lite, which is packable. The classic and waterproof puffers come in different lengths: shorty, original, mid, and long. The lengths of the puffers correlate to their “warmth” levels. The long supposedly keeps you warm in temps down to -40 degrees F, the mid down to -22 degrees F, the classic down to -4 degrees F, and the packable down to 32 degrees F.

On top of that, there are tons and tons and tons of colors. FINALLY! Cute coat colors beyond just black!

Because I was looking for a winter coat, I skipped over the vests and the packable coats, and just went to try on the classic and waterproof ones in various lengths. Let’s see how they looked!

Super Puff Original

Here’s the classic Super Puff in original length. It’s a pretty standard puffer, fits well, and definitely felt warm in that changing room. I tried on both my usual size XS and a size S, and the XS fit much better, especially with sleeve length.

I really liked this puffer a lot and was debating between getting an original length or a mid.

Super Puff Mini

So the mini is the puffer with the “shorty” length, a.k.a. cropped. I, obviously, was not wearing the right outfit to really go with a cropped puffer, so it doesn’t look right in this photo. It was still warm, but, again, obviously not going to be as warm as the original or longer lengths. Given that I am over 30 years old, I have no intention of wearing crop tops in the winter, so this was a definite no for me. However, I’ve seen many younger people (college students, gen Z, my little sister) wearing the cropped style puffer over the winter.

Super Puff Midi

I really loved this mid length classic Super Puff! The length was perfect: covered my butt, but didn’t overwhelm my petite frame (I’m 5’2″). The length of the sleeves was good, and you can see from the photos that all the puffers had that little inner sleeve with finger holes for your thumb. I also liked that this puffer felt relatively lightweight and wasn’t SO puffy that I turned into a marshmallow.

After trying this on, I knew I wanted a mid length puffer, but I needed to decide between this and the waterproof fabric.

Super Puff Waterproof

Here’s the same puffer but in the waterproof fabric (Puff2O in mid length). Immediately I noticed that it felt heavier than the regular Super Puff. The tufts are also just slightly puffier, so a little bit more marshmallow-y, but still not totally round. I would like to take this moment to mention that my mom once dressed me up as Humpty Dumpty for Halloween when I was in elementary school, and I am forever traumatized by egg-shaped outfits. But in the side profile you can’t really see the difference between the black waterproof and pink classic coats. You can kind of see from the front views that the channels on the black coat look slightly more puffy.

Overall, I definitely felt that the original coat was more comfortable, as it was more lightweight and not so puffed up. BUT, given that I live in Seattle… I really had to take into account how often I deal with wet weather. So in the end, I wound up going with a Puff2O in a light gray color that was available online.

Review – Is the Super Puff Worth It?

I wore my mid length, waterproof Super Puff almost every day in the winter last year, and I can say without a doubt, IT’S TOTALLY WORTH IT! Oh my, I LOVE my Super Puff! I got so many compliments on my coat. It kept me both REALLY warm and dry. It’s really the best winter coat I’ve ever had.

I even wore it to a rainy, snowy sledding day with my kids, and it held up really well.

In fact, I love this coat so much, I’m planning to buy more Super Puffs of different colors and lengths this year. If you live in a place where it snows or generally gets near freezing, I highly recommend getting a Super Puff. And for wet areas like Seattle, the waterproof version is absolutely worth it.

Do Super Puffs Go On Sale?

I scanned the Aritzia website and internet message boards religiously over the last year to see if I could find any discounts on the Super Puff. The answer is yes, they do go on sale sometimes. Usually colors that are being discontinued or are less popular go on sale at the end of season. However, I noticed that popular colors often sell out.

If you don’t want to get stuck with less universally liked colors, there is something called the Aritzia clientele sale. I read online that if you spend $150 within the past two years at Aritzia (obviously signed up for an account on their website), then you will qualify for their clientele sale as long as the sale is at least 2 months away from your qualifying purchase.

So basically, if you buy a Super Puff, you will automatically qualify for clientele the next round, and I can verify that this is what happened to me. So I will be using my clientele status to buy my next Super Puffs!
