A Blueberry First Birthday Party

Happy first birthday to baby Juliet! I honestly don’t know how we survived this year. I’m not just talking about The-Virus-That-Must-Not-Be-Named. This baby is a MONSTER. I know she doesn’t look it, because her hair is so fluffy and her smile is so cute, but she is a dragon baby! She doesn’t sleep! She screams bloody murder! She gave me mastitis twice! And she barely eats! BUUUUUT one thing she does love to eat: blueberries. So we threw a blueberry party! We had blueberry-ish food, blueberry party decorations, and blueberry-esque party hats! Come take a look at our easy blueberry themed first birthday party!

Easy Blueberry Party Decorations

I was originally inspired by this post I found on Pinterest featuring a blueberry party for another little baby. One idea I stole was to make a blueberry garland out of paper honeycomb balls. I bought navy blue honeycomb balls off Amazon and cut out green leaves to make blueberries. I used my trusty Silhouette cutting machine, but you could easily draw and cut by hand as well.

“Blueberry” Party Hats

These party hats were another idea I took from that original blog post from Pinterest. I used scrapbook paper I had around the house to cut out the cone hats. You can find tons of party hat templates to trace online; just adjust them to the size you need.

Then, I made blue pom-poms out of yarn! You can buy a pom-pom maker from a craft store, but I just use my fingers. Check out this tutorial to see what I mean. Et voila! A very cheap, very easy set of party hats.

Blueberry Themed Party Foods

Aha! We have reached my favorite part of partying: the menu. Here are the foods we had for our blueberry brunch:

As you can see, we did incorporate some non-blueberry foods into our spread, for variety. I’m not sure my taste buds were ready for a blueberry-only menu.

Blueberry Party Favors – Blueberry Jam!

For our party favors, we gave some of my homemade blueberry basil jam. I don’t have a recipe up because I kind of made it on the fly, but I believe it went something like this:

Just boil everything on stovetop until you’ve achieve a jam-like consistency. Let the jam cool and spoon into giveaway jars. We used repurposed Yumi baby food jars. I guess it goes along with our baby birthday theme?

Lemon Naked Cake Decorated with Blueberries

Lastly, the birthday cake. This cake actually did not make an appearance at our brunch birthday because I couldn’t finish it in time. However, it did appear at our family dinner the next day. There’s no actual blueberries in the cake, because that takes more work than I was willing to put in. But the big pile of blueberries on top make a nice statement, no? For the full lemon cake recipe check out my other blog post here.

That’s a wrap on our blueberry party AND our baby’s first year! Have you had a blueberry party before? Let me know about other fun and easy party themes in the comments below, or come find me on Instagram!
