DIY In-N-Out Family Costume for Halloween

October is upon us! Jeremy and I are trying to figure out what our DIY family Halloween costume will be this year. To be honest, I was never that into Halloween. I made costumes for some years, but not consistently. Of course, all that changed when baby arrived. Last year, we gained unexpected popularity for our DIY In-n-out worker family costume!

The costume is actually SUPER easy to DIY. The In-n-out hats are free if you visit any store. I had my sister bring some for us from California. Then, just wear all white (or tan pants, if you don’t have white). Top it off with a red apron, and you’re basically done.

Our red aprons are made from red felt we found in the clearance section of Joann Fabrics, safety pinned in the back. I think for Jemma’s apron, we used a snappi from our cloth diapers instead of a safety pin (lol). For extra detail, Jeremy printed off name tags on cardstock. We taped pins to them to attach them to our shirts.

My sister bought Jemma’s shirt in California and gifted it to us. But even without it, you could easily DIY the baby’s costume too. Just use a plain white shirt and leggings. I made her hat from two white rectangles of felt, glued together on the sides. I cut out the In-n-out logo from felt and hot glued those as well.

That’s it! We walked around the mall in our costumes and got TONS of compliments. I did NOT expect to be so popular. Strangers even wanted to take pictures of us. Some even asked us if we really worked there… (uh, no we don’t). Maybe our costumes were too good. In any case, this was a super cheap and easy family Halloween costume to DIY. How are we ever going to beat this?? Send me your ideas, please!
