What is a Holy Grail in Kbeauty?
I’m obsessed with Asian beauty and skincare, and one of the best places to get reviews on products before they’re widely released in the US is Reddit! In the subreddit r/AsianBeauty, “Holy Grails” are the life changing products that you can’t live without. I’m one of those people who like to do a ton of research before I buy something, so here is a review of the holy grails that kept getting recommended on Reddit over and over.
Best Kbeauty Skincare Products from Reddit
Etude Soon Jung
You can’t go on any post on Reddit without seeing Etude’s SoongJung line mentioned. It’s meant to be hydrating and calming for sensitive skin. No scents, no frills, just soothing moisture. Having used multiple bottles of their moisturizer, I have to admit, I am a fan. It’s worth the hype!

Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun and Glow Deep
Another product that keeps popping up all over Reddit is Beauty of Joseon’s sunscreen! My sister gifted this to me for Christmas, and it’s exactly as everyone says. Feels like a moisturizer that melts into your skin! Is it significantly better than my other favorite Asian sunscreens? It’s about the same, which means, it’s amazing. Although BoJ sells on Amazon, please be careful: this sunscreen keeps selling out and Amazon may redirect you to another seller.
Also from Beauty of Joseon is the Glow Deep serum. I saw a lot of mentions of this product in early 2022, so it may be slowly losing the hype, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great product. This serum is one of the few that legitimately made a difference in my skin. My skin looked brighter and glowier. If you’re a fan of glass skin, you’ll want this serum. You can purchase this on both Amazon and Sokoglam.
Purito Centella Unscented Serum and Oat in Gel Cream
Okay, we’re starting to get into the products that I have not yet tried but are on my list. Purito’s Centella Unscented Serum and Oat in Gel Cream both keep catching my eye as I browse Reddit. They are both meant to be great for soothing and calming irritated skin. If you can’t tell by now, Korean skincare is huge on keeping your skin calm and happy and not not so big on attacking it with tons of exfoliants. The great thing about Purito is that, like Etude, they sell directly on Amazon!
I’m From Rice Toner
I LOVE me a rice toner, and I’ve tried several over the years. The I’m From Rice Toner is unique from all the other ones I’ve tried in that it is VERY opaquely white! I’m not sure what that means, but it makes me feel like I’m getting extra rice goodness? It’s not so thin as some other rice toners I’ve used, but also not as sticky as a hyaluronic acid one. This toner from I’m From is not only popular on Reddit, but it looks like it’s a bestseller on Soko Glam as well. I’m From is also sold by Wishtrend on Amazon!
Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Cream and Soothing Gel
This Illiyoon ceramide ato line is the major rival to the Etude Soon Jung. Meant to be super hydrating and calming for sensitive skin, it’s ALWAYS SOLD OUT. I can’t seem to get my hands on it! I don’t see it on Sokoglam or by authorized sellers on Amazon, so you’ll have to go straight to Asian websites like Yesstyle to get it.
Isntree Clear Skin 8% AHA Essence and Chestnut BHA 2% Clear Liquid
Kbeauty isn’t known for having great exfoliants in their ingredients, but these two products are starting to get a lot of hype on Reddit. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find the Chestnut BHA on Amazon or Sokoglam, but (like everything) it is available on Yesstyle. The AHA one IS on Sokoglam, just frequently sold out. I guess that’s how you know it’s a holy grail!
Best Kbeauty Makeup from Reddit
As you might have guessed from the balance of this list, Kbeauty really focuses on having great skin. Of course, makeup is also a huge part of kbeauty, but individual products don’t seem to go as widely viral as some of the skincare products among the online community. That said, here are the couple products that are ALWAYS mentioned online:
Rom&nd Lip Tints
I love the dewy and juicy line of Rom&nd lip tints! They are the best lip products that have a pretty long lasting color but don’t dry matte. Somehow Rom&nd has perfected the lip gloss that stays like a tint formula! And the Reddit community knows it! You can find Rom&nd on Amazon, but it’s also easy to buy directly from their website.
Etude Fixing Tint
I can’t mention holy grail Asian beauty products without mentioning the Etude Fixing Tints! They went viral online for being “mask proof” during the pandemic, and the marketing DOES NOT LIE. These tints dry to a very natural finish on my lips, not too matte, and THEY. DO. NOT. BUDGE. Seriously, I wear them all day, even through lunch, and don’t need to reapply. There is some amount of fading, of course, but it does so very naturally, not in big chunks or chips. Best part? Etude sells directly on Amazon! I bought four. Seriously. Just buy them.
