7 Easy Matcha Cookie Recipes to Try

1. Matcha Crinkle Cookies

These cookies went viral on both my Tiktok and my Instagram. They have a great matcha flavor and make a great photo, but best of all, they’re EASY. You don’t even need to chill the dough.

Best Matcha Crinkle Cookies (No Chilling!)

  • 1 stick unsalted butter 1/2 cup
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tbsp matcha See notes

For rolling:

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp matcha optional

  • 2 sticks butter 1 cup
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder optional, see notes

  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar can sub 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 egg + 1 yolk
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp matcha
  • sanding sugar for sprinkling optional

5. Strawberry Matcha Pinwheel Cookies

These strawberry matcha pinwheel cookies actually use the same base dough as the checkerboard cookies. They look so fun, and it’s easy to switch out the flavors.

Strawberry Matcha Pinwheel Cookies

  • 2 sticks butter 1 cup
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar can sub 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 egg + 1 yolk
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup freeze dried strawberry blended into powder
  • Optional 1 drop red food coloring
  • 1 tsp matcha
  • Flour for dusting

6. Matcha Shortbread Slice and Bake Cookies

These matcha cookies are super easy because they’re slice and bake shortbread! I mixed in sesame seeds and dipped in white chocolate, but you can leave it as plain matcha shortbread cookies if you like.

Matcha Sesame White Chocolate Shortbread Cookies

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup bread flour (can sub all purpose)
  • 1 tbsp + 1 tsp matcha
  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds optional
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate chips optional
  • 1 tsp shortening, oil, or coconut oil optional

7. Matcha Macarons

Okay… these matcha macarons are decidedly NOT easy to make. But I didn’t want to exclude them from my matcha cookie roundup. I guess really, I should call this post 6 Easy Matcha Cookie Recipes and 1 Really Hard One. Not that it’s any harder than a regular macaron recipe. It’s just… macarons are hard. But if you are up for a challenge then do give these a try!

Matcha Macarons with Strawberry Buttercream Filling

Matcha Macarons

  • 150 g almond flour super finely ground
  • 150 g powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp matcha
  • 110 g egg whites from about 4 eggs
  • 150 g granulated sugar
  • 90 mL water

Strawberry Buttercream

  • 4 g freeze dried strawberries about 1/4 cup
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened 1 stick
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp heavy cream
