These easy soy sauce braised Creamer potatoes are inspired by the Korean braised potatoes side dish, or gamja jorim. Because the Creamer potatoes are little, they cook quickly, making it a great addition to a weeknight menu. It pairs well with many Asian dishes. Toss it on a plate with your choice of protein and pickled veggies, and you’ve got a meal.
I do a lot of baking, but when it comes to savory carbs, Creamer potatoes take the cake. 😉 See what I did there? Anyway, the one bad thing about large baking potatoes is that they kind of take a lot of prep work. I really hate scrubbing, peeling, and chopping large baking potatoes. On top of that, they can kind of take a long time to cook, relative to other vegetables. Especially now, with two kids at home, I need all the shortcuts I can get.
Introducing the solution to my large baking potato problems: The Little Potato Company‘s Creamer potatoes! They’re little (think: bite-size!), which means they cook faster, and their skins are meant to be eaten, packing in big flavor! No peeling! On top of that, they come pre-washed. (Note: During a pandemic, it gives me great anxiety NOT to wash anything, so do what you need to do to eat comfortably. I don’t judge.)
You can find The Little Potato Company Creamer potatoes at your local Walmart. I got The Little Potato Company Dynamic Duo and The Little Potato Company Blushing Belle Creamer potatoes at the Walmart Supercenter in Renton. Most Walmarts even have an Online Grocery Pickup option, which is great if you’re being extra safe and avoiding shopping indoors.
Now about the recipe: this soy braised Creamer potato dish is inspired by the banchan you get at Korean restaurants. The Creamer potato sides are always my favorite. With a mix of sweet and salty, soy sauce braised spuds bring a lot of umami. Both my toddler and my husband love this side dish. We often eat it with pickled cucumbers and bulgolgi. Give it a try and let me know how it went with the hashtag #easylittlepotato!

Over what temp do you cook everything? Mine didn’t end up with that nice glaze in your finished picture.
Hi Sean! I do everything over medium-high heat. I wonder if there maybe wasn’t enough oil in the beginning? After the water is cooked off it fries the edges a little, which I think is what makes it shiny. I also use a cast iron skillet, not sure if that would make a difference.
